Summery: In this article, I’ll show you how I personally make my iPhone 5’s Battery Life Last Longer. There are many factors that cause horrible battery life on the iPhone 5 but I’ll focus on some of the tools that I use to ensure that I get a full days use out of my iPhone. Here are some tips to extend iPhone battery life, including new tips for iOS 7
Turn off Background App Refresh
One of the biggest battery drains on the iOS 7 platform is the Background App Refresh. This app continually refreshes content when your phone is running on Wi-Fi or a cellular network and is the reason you can multi-task on your phone. If you are in a situation where you need as much battery power as possible, this should be the first thing to turn off! To disable this feature, visit Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Here you can turn off the entire function or just disable the apps you that you do not want to refresh automatically.
Turn off Location-Tracking Apps
I bet you didn’t realize how many apps actually track your location even when not in use. You can turn this off completely or disable apps one-by-one by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Before shutting them all down completely think about things to leave on that could be important such as Find My Phone if it’s ever lost… or if YOU are ever lost!
You can take this one step further by selecting System Services and turn off even more apps that are stealing your battery life, including Compass Calibration and Frequent Locations. While here you can turn off Diagnostics and Usage that frequently updates Apple on how you use your phone as well as Location-Based iAds which uses your phone use and history to send you specific targeted ads on the apps you use.
If you have noticed with the iOS7 interface the wallpaper on your home screen and locked screen moves behind the apps. Turning this off will help slightly in making your phone’s battery life last just a bit longer. To turn this off visit Settings > General > Accessibility and click Reduce Motion to “on.”
Disable Automatic Updating
My favorite new feature in iOS7 is that it finally automatically updates all of your apps without having to manually go in and update each one. That was so frustrating! That being said, if your battery is about to run out of juice who cares if you have the newest version of Instagram?
To disable this setting visit Settings > iTunes & App Store and uncheck Updates.
Turn off Spotlight
No matter where you are on your phone you can now access Apple’s internal search function called Spotlight. This is absolutely killing your battery because your phone is continually indexing new data.To turn off what you do not need indexed, head to Settings > General > Spotlight Search.
There are more ways you can save battery power such as turning off AirDrop from the control center or turning down the brightness on your phone but there is another solution that has been getting popular lately that I have to mention. You can now buy cases that double your iPhone battery life with “battery cases.”
