“I have a iPhone 5c, the screen and touch was damaged due to a drop. I had the screen replaced several weeks later and the touch both work with out issues now but I had approx 250+ SMS and some missed calls, now after restarting the phone without opening the message app or phone app they are all gone. running IOS 9.1, i’ve tried restarting the phone again, and removing the sim and replacing, nothing seems to work. Any ideas?”
The iPhone 5s user went to the repair store expecting to have the damaged screen and touch, only to end up with a message loss though the iPhone can work perfectly now. Removing the sim card and replacing does not work because the sim card does not save SMS messages and call history. This, however, does not mean you cannot get back the missing messages.
Actually, there are different ways to help you recover the missing messages after the repair.
Restore from iTunes
If you have iTunes backup, you can try restoring your iPhone from the previous iTunes backup. Here is how.
> Connect your device to the computer that you stored your backup on.
> Open iTunes. If iTunes tells you there’s an iOS update, get the latest version.
> Go to File > Devices > Restore from Backup. If you’re using Windows and don’t see a File menu, press the Alt key.
> Look at the date and size of each backup and pick the most relevant.
> Click restore and wait for the process to finish. Your device will restart and then sync with your computer. Stay connected until the sync finishes. Check whether the deleted conversation has been restored to your iPhone.
Provided that the missing messages are included in the iTunes backup, you will be able to restore the lost messages successfully to your iPhone.
Scan And Recover Missing Messages with iFonebox
If you don’t have iTunes backup, you can try scanning your iPhone directly with third party iPhone data recovery software like iFonebox. Here is how.
> Install and run the full version of iFonebox.
Note: iFonebox is available for both Windows and Mac version, please choose the right version to download and install.
> Connect your iPhone to your computer.
> Click “Start” after your iPhone is detected by iFonebox.
> Choose messages to scan selectively from the interface listing all the supported data categories.
> Wait until the data analyzing and scanning finishes.
> Preview all the exported messages items and choose whatever you need to recover to your computer.
Do remember to back up your iPhone before sending it to store for repair in case of something goes wrong and your lost data turn out to be irretrievable.
