You have got a new iPhone 6s Plus as gift of new year and want to transfer all the messages to from your old iPhone 6s to your new iPhone 6s Plus. What should you do?
To transfer messages from one iPhone to another, there are more than one way, you can backup your old iPhone 6s through iTunes or iCloud, and then set up your iPhone 6s Plus and restore from the backup for the old iPhone. One thing you need to keep in mind is that you’d better make sure both your old iPhone 6s and your new iPhone 6s Plus are running the same version of iOS.
Actually, I don’t recommend restoring from iCloud backup, as there are quite a lot of people are complaining data loss including messages and recent calls after restoring from iCloud backup. Though Apple has officially admitted this as a bug and there is no fixing solution for the time being.
Therefore, in this post I would like to introduce two methods about how to transfer messages from one iPhone to another.
Restore iPhone from iTunes Backup
If you have created an iTunes backup for your old iPhone 6s, you can restore your new iPhone 6s plus from the iTunes backup.
Here is how.
> Connect your device to the computer that you stored your backup on.
> Open iTunes. If iTunes tells you there’s an iOS update, get the latest version.
> Go to File > Devices > Restore from Backup. If you’re using Windows and don’t see a File menu, press the Alt key.
> Look at the date and size of each backup and pick the most relevant.
> Click restore and wait for the process to finish. Your device will restart and then sync with your computer. Stay connected until the sync finishes.
All the data that have been saved on your old iPhone will be restored to iPhone 6s Plus, including all your messages. The problem is that the restoring process will erase all the content and settings on your new iPhone 6s Plus, which will cause permanent data loss.
If you want to restore the messages selectively, here is another way to achieve so.
Transfer Messages Selectively from Old iPhone to New iPhone
Here I would like to introduce a third party iPhone data recovery software which can extract the messages from iTunes backup for your old iPhone selectively without losing anything else.
> Install and run iFonebox.
> Connect your new iPhone 6s plus to your computer.
> Choose the recovery mode of “Recover from iTunes Backup.
> Select the iTunes backup from which you want to transfer the messages selectively.
> Choose Messages to scan selectively from the interface listing all the supported data types.
> Wait until the data scanning and analyzing completes.
> Preview all the exported messages and choose whatever you want to recover to your iPhone 6s Plus by clicking on “Recover to Device”.
After the recovering process is finished, all the messages you have selected will be transferred to your iPhone 6s Plus successfully.
