“Have been trying to download the new update on my iPhone 6 since yesterday but I keep getting the error “Software update failed: An error occurred downloading iOS 8.2”. I have restarted my phone several times, have tried doing the update via iTunes, but nothing works. I can’t update/add any new apps until 8.2 is installed. Very frustrating. iPhone 6, iOS 8″
It has been weeks since Apple officially released iOS 8.2. The update brings a number of enhancements and fixes but according to some iPhone and iPad users, but some users failed to update to iOS 8.2 successfully just as the above situation one iPhone user reflected. Here, I have collected some reasons for failure to update to iOS 8.2.
Reason 1: Don’t have enough space.
We all know that you need 5.8 GB space to upgrade your iOS system to iOS 8. If you have a 16 GB phone, 5 GB means a massive chunk of your photos, videos, music and apps. But if you have already in iOS 8, when you want to update to iOS 8.2, it just needs about 300 MB. So before update, check the storage space.
Reason 2: iPhone is out of power.
The whole process to update to iOS 8.2 almost takes about 30 minutes. So it is necessary that you have to make sure that your iPhone or iPad is full of power.
Reason 3: Your iPhone is not compatible with iOS 8.2.
You should make sure that your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch is compatible with iOS 8.2, otherwise, it is more likely to fail to update to iOS 8.2 successfully.
Please note iOS 8.2 is available as a free upgrade for the following iOS devices:
- iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s
- iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3 and iPad 2
- Retina iPad mini, 1st gen iPad mini
- 5th generation iPod touch
